Dr. Skugor is a distinguished expert in endocrinology with a career spanning over three decades. After graduating medical school in 1986, Dr. Skugor began as a research associate at the Institute for Nuclear Medicine in Zagreb. In 1993, he completed his Nuclear Medicine Residency and subsequently joined the Bone and Mineral Metabolism Laboratory at Ohio State University, where he conducted research from 1993 – 1997.
Dr. Skugor then pursued an Internal Medicine residency at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland, serving as Chief Resident. He further specialized by completing an Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in 2002 and has been on staff there ever since.
Dr. Skugor held several key leadership roles both at Cleveland Clinic and in the community, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, where he was president from 2007 to 2008. He spent 5 years leading Global Patient Services at Cleveland Clinic, including as Chairman from 2013 – 2014. From 2009 – 2011, Dr. Skugor was the Associate Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship program at Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Geiger joined the Head and Neck group at Cleveland Clinic in 2016. She has served as the Program Director since 2021, and was appointed a Vice-Chair of the Dept of Hematology/Oncology in 2023. She specializes in head and neck, advanced thyroid, and non-melanoma skin cancers.
Joseph Scharpf, MD, FACS, is a Professor of Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and a Member of the Cleveland Clinic’s Head and Neck Institute in the Head and Neck Surgery section. Dr. Scharpf serves as the Vice Chair for Professional Development and Continuing Education for HNI He is board-certified in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. His specialty interests include thyroid and parathyroid surgery, head and neck cancer, benign head and neck tumors including salivary tumors and paragangliomas, and skull base surgery. He serves as the Director of Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Scharpf’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, from Case Western Reserve University and a Medical Doctorate from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed a general surgery internship and an otolaryngology, head and neck surgery residency including an additional year of research at the Cleveland Clinic. He pursued further fellowship training in advanced head and neck cancer, endocrine, and reconstructive surgery at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA before returning to the Cleveland Clinic.
He has published a book on Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in Head & Neck Surgery, numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and multiple book chapters on head and neck cancer and reconstruction, and has delivered numerous presentations both nationally and internationally. Dr. Scharpf also serves as an educator, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. He is a reviewer for several major scientific journals in his field and has served as a consultant for ThyCa, an organization dedicated to the well-being of those afflicted with thyroid cancer.

Dr. David Grossman, MD FACP, is a Staff Physician in the Hematology Oncology Program in the Oncology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Grossman spent 7 years at Cleveland Clinic Florida, US, building the Cancer Center, bringing his years of experience and expertise to a small and excellent program. He helped to build that program to 17 physicians in his time in Florida before coming to Abu Dhabi.
Prior to that, Dr. Grossman was in practice in the Western Suburbs of Philadelphia, US, in a practice affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. He joined one other physician and grew to 12 physicians in 26 years. The practice took pride in providing the highest level of cancer care in the community, taking care of patients close to their home.
Dr. Basel Altrabulsi has been part of National Reference Laboratory’s (NRL) scientific leadership team since 2015, in his current role he oversees the pathology and laboratory services at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of NRL’s flagship laboratories in the UAE, specializing in Anatomic Pathology.
Dr. Basel is certified by the American Board of Pathology, combined Clinical and Anatomical Pathology and brings to NRL more than 18 years’ international experience in the field of laboratory medicine and diagnostic pathology.
Dr. Basel started his internship in pathology at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Texas and completed his residency training in 2003. He then completed his Selective Pathology Fellowship, followed by a Clinical Research Training Program, at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Basel’s career has included multiple leadership positions at elite US hospitals and reference laboratories, such as Chief of Service and Medical Director at Baylor University Medical Center; Director of the Histology Laboratory at Greater Dallas Pathology; and Medical Director of Arlington Cancer Center. He has also served as an Inspection Team Leader for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) on multiple occasions.
He has authored many research publications and is a member of global organizations, such as the International Society of Urological Pathology, the International Society of Breast Pathology, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Dr. Basel is passionate about research and education and is the Pathology Course Director at Khalifa University, College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Mahdi Shkoukani, MD, is the Department Chair for Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery department in the Surgical Subspecialties Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Haytham Dimashkieh is an American board-certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist and Cytopathologist and a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists.
A graduate of the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Haytham completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Cincinnati, in Ohio, followed by a Medical and Surgical Pathology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, and a Cytopathology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.

Dr. Wiam completed all his training in the United States of America. After completing the Internal Medicine residency program and receiving the annual Best Resident Award, he continued his training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he got two fellowships in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
While at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, he received multiple awards, including a first-place national award of the year in the USA for his research and publications in his field from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American College of Endocrinology.
He returned to the Gulf area in 1998 where he established a world-class center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Osteoporosis in Saudi Arabia. He later became the First Director of the Joslin Affiliate in Bahrain (with the Harvard Team) where he built a successful Diabetes and Endocrine Center in Bahrain.
He is the founder of The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists Gulf Chapter for the 6 countries (The largest organization established for all the GCC countries), now called the Gulf Association for Endocrinology and Diabetes, He was The Secretary, Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors for many years and the President of the Gulf Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes 2024-2025, the largest Endocrine and Diabetes association in the Gulf countries.
He has received several national and international recognitions for his work in Bahrain and the Gulf Area. Dr. Wiam has been selected as the recipient of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists Gulf Chapter Ibn Sina Distinguished Service Award 2018 in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology. He is also the founder and the Chairman of Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrine Review, the largest Endocrinology congress in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Huda E. Mustafa graduated from King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia before completing her postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Imperial College London, UK. She holds a Master’s degree in Diabetes from Warwick University, UK. Since 2014 Dr. Huda has been the Division Head of Endocrinology & Diabetes in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and the Lead Physician of the thyroid cancer program and Bariatric Medicine. In February 2019, Dr. Huda joint HealthPlus group, a comprehensive center of excellence in diabetes and Endocrinology in the capital of Abu Dhabi.
Huda is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh and a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. During her appointments in SKMC, has been a key member of multiple committees, including the Institutional Ethics Committee, Pharmaceuticals and Therapeutics, and Chronic Disease Management Committee at the Department of Health of Abu Dhabi.

After his residency, Dr. Lin completed a fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Stanford University.
